Almost all insurance companies have adopted automated anti-fraud systems to support their staff in the so-called “detection” phase, i. e. in the distinction between a real accident and a fraud. However, these systems do not prove to be sufficient to ensure an effective countering of frauds, as they are not able to provide predictive information; therefore, they do not warn the underwriter whether the person applying for insurance cover is likely to be a fraudster or not. In addition, it should be added to this that, unlike in the motor line of business, all the other lines of business are poorly guarded not only in the prevention but also in the detection phase.
DAISY (Detector – Antifraud Insurance System) is a solution able to identify the “potential fraudulentness” of the person requesting the policy through the implementation of predictive rules, thus being able to know in advance the risks that the Company could face by stipulating that contract. The ultimate objective is to allow the best possible assessment of the risks during the underwriting phase and to implement appropriate countermeasures to safeguard the Company.
